Wilderness Medicine Scholarship - Goth Wilderness Scholarship for Non-Profit Organizations
Goth Scholarship
This annual scholarship, named for Wilderness Medical Associates founder Peter Goth MD, is given by Wilderness Medical Associates to a non-profit organization that has a longstanding commitment to making wilderness adventure available to everyone regardless of what may perceived as limiting factors such as physical disabilities or inadequate finances.
The scholarship consists of a Wilderness First Responder course for an employee. The recipient organization may select one of its staff members to attend a pre-designated Wilderness Medical Associates Wilderness First Responder course. Tuition, books, room and board are included.
We established this scholarship to recognize the contribution Dr. Peter Goth has made to wilderness medicine. Dr. Goth founded Wilderness Medical Associates in 1978 and sold the company in the early 1990s. It is now owned by Dr. David Johnson, a longtime friend and associate of Dr. Goth.
The scholarship was established in 2003 and its first recipient was Wilderness Inquiry, a Minnesota-based organization that provides outdoor adventure for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds including people with disabilities.
We select the recipient organization from our knowledge of the field, suggestions from others, and have a limited application process. We may or may not select a recipient from those who apply.
