Summary:

The Open Recertification course is open to graduates of ALL wilderness medical training courses of 64 hours or longer with a current Wilderness First Responder certification. Successful graduates of this course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness First Responder, Anaphylaxis, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certifications. WMA WEMT graduates with a current EMT-B or Paramedic certificate may also recertify the wilderness portion of their WEMT with this course.

Registration, payment of fees, cancellation and refund policy: Enrollment is limited! To reserve a space, please please register online and send a deposit of $300, made payable to YMCA Camp Greenville, ATTN: Taylor Fay, PO Box 390, Cedar Mountain NC 28718 by November 19, 2010. A Confirmation Packet will be sent or emailed upon receipt of your deposit and the final balance will be due upon arrival. Refunds will be available up to November 19, 2010 with a cancellation request in writing, minus $50 administrative costs. No cancellations after this date. You will receive a confirmation email upon registering from tfay@ymcagreenville.org. Because camp information will be sent in a few attachments, please be sure to check all folders in your email inbox.

Prerequisites:

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, unless a parent or legal guardian is taking the course.

To be eligible for a WFR recertification through this course, candidates must have completed a wilderness medical training course of at least 64 hours. Cumulative training hours from different courses are not eligible. Training must have been completed within three years of participation in our three-day Open Recertification course. Any exceptions to these conditions must be verified prior to the course by contacting the Wilderness Medical Associates office. Proof of current certification is required at the start of the course. Students without proof of certification or approval from the WMA™ office will not be eligible for WFR certification. Only WMA™ trained WEMTs are eligible for WEMT recertification through this course.

Upon receipt of a course roster from the sponsor, pre-course Study Guides will be mailed to students two to four weeks prior to the first day of their course.Students should complete the Study Guide in preparation for the course. It was designed to familiarize students with the essential points in the curriculum. Instructors will collect it at the beginning of the course but it will not be figured into the final grade.

Students must be at least sixteen years old to participate in the three-day Open Recertification course. Those under age eighteen will require the written consent of a parent or guardian.

Accommodations: Bathrooms with showers are located in each of our cabins, which will be kept nice and warm. Food and Lodging are available for $55.

Food: Food: Three meals will be provided each day. There will be an expansive salad bar at lunch and dinner, and vegetarian options available at every meal.

Course Format and Arrival Time: Check-in from 8:00AM to 8:30AM on Friday, December 3rd. Class will begin at 8:30AM each day. Early check-in (with lodging) is available on Thursday, December 2nd from 7:00PM to 8:00PM ($25 additional fee).

Parking: Plenty of parking is available on site.

What to bring: Be prepared for wonderful winter weather! Our cabins are camp style with bunk-beds. Please bring your own bedding. A packing list will be mailed upon registration.

Travel Directions: Asheville Regional Airport is about 45 minutes away, Greenville/Spartanburg International Airport is about an hour, the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport is 2 1/2 hours, and Atlanta Hartsfield/Jackson International is 3 hours.

Sponsor Policies: The YMCA of Greenville promotes healthy living, and, as such, smoking, drugs and alcohol are not allowed on site. Pets are not allowed. They will be happier at home!
