Summary:

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the ideal medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. This course is offered in several formats.

Cost: $525

Registration, payment of fees, cancellation and refund policy: Full payment is required within 10 days of making your reservation. If the program begins within 10 days of making the reservation, full payment is required at time of reservation. If payment is not received within 10 days after registration, your registration will be forfeited.

A full refund will be given for cancellations made with at least 60 days notice. A 50% refund will be given for cancellations made 30-60 days prior to the program. A refund will not be given for cancellations made within 30 days of the program.

A full refund will be given if we are forced to cancel the program for any reason.

Prerequisites: Students must be at least sixteen years old to participate. Those under 18 years of age will require the written consent of a parent or guardian. Certain course sponsors, including those offering the five-day format, may set a higher minimum age or establish other requirements consistent with their program. No previous medical training is required.

Accommodations: $10/night at the scout camp.

Food: Lunch provided.

Course Format and Arrival Time: 8 AM

What to bring:
NECESSARY ITEMS

  • Pen & Paper

  • Rain gear tops and bottoms

  • Layers of clothing (so you can stay comfortable inside and out) – only synthetic – NO COTTON!

  • Hat-warm, not made of cotton – beanie, toboggan, stocking cap, etc.

  • Mittens or gloves

  • Daypack or Knapsack

  • Water Bottle (1 qt.) for drinking water

  • Footwear (closed toe) suitable for outdoor condition


  • HELPFUL ITEMS TO BRING
  • Bandanas of any kind

  • Sport Specific Gear (paddles, poles, old climbing rope. etc.) – things that you use when you “Get Out & Live” that you would like to experiment with for first aid purposes

    Sponsor Policies:
    To insure your safety and enjoyment and that of other park visitors, and for the safety and protection of MetroParks facilities, follow these rules:

  • Do not bring firewood to any MetroPark facility because of the Emerald Ash Borer infestation
  • Removal of property prohibited
  • Pets (where permitted) must be on a leash that is no longer than 8 feet
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited without permit
  • Motorized vehicles allowed on roads and parking lots only
  • Solicitation prohibited
  • Music must remain at a low volume so as to not disturb others

  • Fires in grills and designated areas only
  • Dangerous weapons prohibited without authorization
  • Release of animals prohibited
  • Do not approach or disturb any wildlife you may encounter Do not litter
