Adaptive Sports Center, a wilderness adventure organization focusing on accessibility for all, is the 2004 recipient of the Peter Goth Wilderness Medicine Scholarship awarded by Wilderness Medical Associates.

The Goth Scholarship recognizes an organization that has demonstrated a strong commitment to making wilderness adventure accessible to a wide group of people. The recipient receives a full scholarship for one of its staff to a Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness First Responder course.

Adaptive Sports Center Outdoor RecreationThe Adaptive Sports Center, based in Crested Butte, CO and founded in 1987, provides outdoor recreation to people with disabilities as well as their friends and families. This mission is based on a strong belief that experiencing and gaining skill in these activities positively affects their clients in every facet of their lives. They provide year-round activities such as skiing, mountain biking, hiking, canoeing, rock climbing and other sports to people with physical, cognitive, or emotional/behavioral disorders regardless of financial status. The scholarship honors WMA founder Dr. Peter Goth who began Wilderness Medical Associates in 1978 to provide medical training and risk management to Outward Bound Schools in the United States. Dr. Goth currently practices emergency medicine in Maine, and Wilderness Medical Associates is now the world’s largest wilderness medicine training organization.
