Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit organization who seeks and works for a world where where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Their mission is to mobilize volunteers and communities in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.
Habitat's Global Village program utilizes international volunteers to build affordable housing around the world, including areas that limited capacity such as areas recovering from disasters or remote communities with minimal resources.
Many of the areas that the Global Village program work in, do not have access to hospitals, emergency rescue, or other medical assistance. If a Habitat volunteer is sick or injured it may take days to evacuate to the required healthcare.
Wilderness Medical Associates International has worked directly with Habitat to develop appropriate and sustainable medical training for Global Village team leaders and participants. The training is specific to the needs of supporting both Habitat volunteers and the international communities they will be working in. It addresses both in-country and out-of-country medical assessment, treatment, evacuation, injury/illness prevention, and the safety management to successful provide these interventions.
Wilderness Medical Associates International continues to work with Habitat for Humanity by training its team leaders and offering in-kind workshops at Global Village annual conferences.
Conterra Technical Systems
Conterra is considered one of the premier designers and manufacturers of technical rescue gear in the world. Their rescue packs are considered the most practically and functionally designed for medical, fire, police, or other rescue services operating and responding in unique environments.
Wilderness Medical Associates International continuously consults on the design and use of Conterra products for their use in unconventional medical environs. These settings may include the use of Conterra equipment in medical settings including expedition, combat, tactical EMS, disaster response, and SAR operations.
Outward Bound
Outward Bound is an international non-profit outdoor educational organization and expedition school. Its programs are designed to inspire character development, self-discovery, and service through experiential learning in unfamiliar settings. It includes over 40 schools around the world with over 200,000 participants yearly.
Wilderness Medical Associates International trains the staff of dozens of Outward Bound schools around in medical skills for working in remote and unconventional settings. As well, Wilderness Medical Associates has developed a medical screening tool for all Outward Bound schools to use internationally. This screening tool, largely considered the most innovative in the outdoor recreation and education communities provides an effective way to assess the health needs of expedition participants and provide a safe experience for them on wilderness trips.
Wilderness Risk Management Conference
The Wilderness Risk Management Conference is an annual educational conference for industry professionals to share experiences in regards to mitigating risk in wilderness and remote areas.
Instructors and staff from Wilderness Medical Associates International have provided support for many years to this conference by facilitating workshops, providing leadership through medical consulting, and being full supporters of this worthwhile event.
Cascade Toboggans
Cascade Toboggan Rescue Equipment Company manufactures the highest quality, most durable, reliable and technologically advanced rescue transport devices. Wilderness Medical Associates International regularly uses Cascade Toboggan's rescue litters as an effective and highly capable to train rescue professionals who regularly evacuate injured parties from hostile environments.
Mountain Equipment Coop
Mountain Equipment Coop is an outdoor gear cooperative that operates across all of Canada. Its mission includes "providing quality products and services for self-propelled wilderness-oriented recreation, such as hiking and mountaineering, at the lowest reasonable price in an informative, respectful manner. They are a member-owned co-operative striving for social and environmental leadership".
Wilderness Medical Associates International provides regular training to hundreds of Mountain Equipment Coop staff members across Canada as well as providing medical support to its community based events such as Paddlefest.
São Paulo State Mountaineering Federation
The São Paulo State Mountaineering Federation is a non-profit institution which represents the climbing and mountaineering community in São Paulo state, Brazil.Their goals are to promote and encourage the development and safe practice of climbing and mountaineering activities, conservationism, to stand for the community's interests (such as free access to climbing and mountaineering areas) and to represent the community before Government Institutions.
Wilderness Medical Associates is the wilderness first aid training provider of choice for the São Paulo State Mountaineering Federation, preparing outdoor enthusiasts and professionals to deal with emergency situations.
