An entry-level course designed for professionals working in significantly remote settings for days or weeks.
Wilderness Advanced First Aid is comprehensive medical training designed for remote professionals or wilderness leaders who venture into remote and challenging environments. Wilderness Medicine differs significantly from standard first aid courses and other training that are oriented toward urban environments. This course teaches how to manage medical emergencies when hospitals and rescue services may not be available for an extensive time period. We prepare students for emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments, and improvised equipment.
Located on 158 acres in Plain, Washington, Stonewater Ranch is the ideal setting for wilderness scenarios.
Our address is 19537 Chiwawa Loop Rd. Leavenworth, WA 98826. Directions can be found at: http://www.yd.org/stonewater/directions/
Parking is available and free.
The Leavenworth area has a variety of outdoor opportunities available, especially this time of year: rock climbing in Icicle Canyon, Peshastin Pinnacles, Tumwater Canyon, whitewater rafting and kayaking the Wenatchee River, Tumwater and Icicle Canyons, etc. There is also lots of hiking along the Hwy 2 corridor West of Leavenworth, in Icicle Canyon, and near Lake Wenatchee.
Room and Board:
Lodging is available the first night of the course through the last day. Lodging is a large retreat home with several beds or bunks in each room, community bathrooms, full kitchen, and fridge you can store personal food in. Please bring your own towel, pillow, sleeping bag or bedding. Depending on your carrier, cell reception is spotty around Stonewater Ranch. Since we are in a rural community, we encourage people coming from out of town to stay with us for a more immersive and relaxing learning environment. Bring your own breakfast and dinner.
Lunch and snacks are included during the course. Please alert us to any food allergies or dietary restrictions at least a month prior to the course. We cannot accommodate all dietary needs. There is a small grocery store (Plain Grocery) a couple miles from Stonewater Ranch, Headwaters Pizza and Pub about 5 miles away, and the 59er Diner on Hwy 2 about 8 miles away. The town of Leavenworth with more grocery and restaurant options is 15 miles (about a 25 minute drive) from the course site.
