The Open Recertification course is open to graduates of any wilderness-based first aid training course that was at least 64 hours long and completed within 3 years of the proposed recertification option. Successful graduates of this course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness First Responder, Anaphylaxis, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certifications. WMA WEMT graduates with a current EMT-B or Paramedic certificate may also recertify the wilderness portion of their WEMT with this course.

FROM THE SOUTH: Take the Adirondack Northway (I-87) to Exit 30. Turn Left on Rt. 73 toward Keene and Lake Placid, continue on Rt. 73 for 26.5 miles. Turn left on Adirondak Loj Road (High Peaks Trailhead sign), and follow for five miles to the Adirondak Loj (dead end).
FROM THE NORTH: Take the Adirondack Northway (I-87) south to Exit 34, Keeseville. Follow 9N to Jay, and then follow Rt. 86 to Lake Placid. Turn left on Rt. 73 before going through Lake Placid. In three miles look for the High Peaks Trailhead sign and turn right on Adirondak Loj Road. Take this road for five miles to the Adirondak Loj (dead end). FROM THE WEST: Take Rt. 3 or 86 into Saranac Lake. Continue on Rt. 86 through Lake Placid. At the third traffic light, turn right onto Rt. 73 towards Keene. In three miles look for the High Peaks Trailhead sign and turn right on Adirondak Loj Road. Take this road for five miles to the Adirondak Loj (dead end).
Room and Board:
A Course & Accommodations Package is available for up to 20 participants, which includes instruction, course materials, parking, lodging for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and meals starting with dinner Thursday evening through lunch on Sunday. To get the most out of the workshop, participants are encouraged to stay right at ADK’s facilities. Space is reserved for participants in the lodging yurts. Package participants should bring their own sleeping bag/warm linens, a pillow, and towels. While the yurts are heated (55 degrees Fahrenheit), the wash house and restrooms are a two-minute walk from the Yurt Village so cold-weather clothing and a headlamp are required. If you are participating in the Lodging Package, you may arrive on Thursday anytime between 2pm and 6pm to claim your bunk and to get settled. Dinner will be served promptly at 6:15pm in the Adirondak Loj Dining Room. Breakfast will be served at 7:00am each morning in the Loj as well, but be sure that you return to the Yurt Village by 8:00am for instruction. A bagged trail lunch is provided each day, and dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
For those selecting the course-only option, there are plenty of hotels, motels, restaurants, and grocery stores in Lake Placid, NY to achieve other food & accommodation needs.
