Course Description:

The definitive wilderness course in medical training, leadership, and critical thinking for outdoor, low-resource, and remote professionals and leaders.

The Wilderness First Responder program is the ideal medical training for leaders in remote areas including outdoor educators, guides, military, professional search and rescue teams, researchers, and those involved in disaster relief. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical. It includes the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary.

Prior to enrolling in a course, please review our Functional Position Description. The criteria set forth in this document allows students to self-assess their ability to meet the demands of both a WMAI course as well as the demands of a certified wilderness medical provider in the field.

All Colorado Outside courses are running at reduced capacity and with additional accommodations in place. Masks are required at all times indoors. Hands on practice is done outside as much as possible. Masks and eye protection are required while practicing skills. Students are assigned individual first aid equipment. Instructors are vaccinated and receive regular testing. Additional information will be sent upon registration.
