Carl was introduced to the world of wilderness medicine while growing up in Utah in a family that was involved in search and rescue. He is now a Master EMS Instructor at the University of New Mexico where he has taught since 1985 and has been involved in the development of both curriculum and examinations. He is also a Medical Care Supervisor and member of ski patrol at Taos Ski Valley, and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Holy Cross Medical Center in Taos. Additionally, Carl has written and contributed to much of the emergency medical legislation in New Mexico. He is also a client resource for Bound Tree ALS Products which means he knows so much about so many ALS products and issues he has become the expert to whom everyone refers questions. When he is not working, Carl likes to visit his six grandchildren and spend time in the backcountry with his wife and their dog.
