Now based in Thunder Bay, Dave is finishing his physician residency in the Northern Ontario School of Medicine's rural and remote family medicine program. His medical training has taken him from northern British Columbia to Newfoundland and Sioux Lookout, Ontario to the Kalahari desert Before studying medicine, he worked as a guide and facilitator at summer camps for special needs and at-risk youth where he led canoe trips for teens with behavioural disorders and physical disabilities. He has been a pioneer in the research and study of wilderness medicine education remote First Nations communities. Dave is an avid hiker, skier, and snowshoer, but he is happiest in a canoe. He has paddled extensively in Ontario and in the Yukon.
