Course Description


Summary:

The Open Recertification course is open to graduates of any wilderness-based first aid training course that was at least 64 hours long and completed within 3 years of the proposed recertification option. Successful graduates of this course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness First Responder, Anaphylaxis, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certifications. WMA WEMT graduates with a current EMT-B or Paramedic certificate may also recertify the wilderness portion of their WEMT with this course.

**If you are using this course to recertify a WMA WEMT if is your responsibility to let the sponsor know when registering, and to inform the instructor on the first day of class.**

Directions:

FROM THE SOUTH: Take the Adirondack Northway (I-87) to Exit 30. Turn Left on Rt. 73 toward Keene and Lake Placid, continue on Rt. 73 for 26.5 miles. Turn left on Adirondak Loj Road (High Peaks Trailhead sign), and follow for five miles to the Adirondak Loj (dead end).

FROM THE NORTH: Take the Adirondack Northway (I-87) south to Exit 34, Keeseville. Follow 9N to Jay, and then follow Rt. 86 to Lake Placid. Turn left on Rt. 73 before going through Lake Placid. In three miles look for the High Peaks Trailhead sign and turn right on Adirondak Loj Road. Take this road for five miles to the Adirondak Loj (dead end). FROM THE WEST: Take Rt. 3 or 86 into Saranac Lake. Continue on Rt. 86 through Lake Placid. At the third traffic light, turn right onto Rt. 73 towards Keene. In three miles look for the High Peaks Trailhead sign and turn right on Adirondak Loj Road. Take this road for five miles to the Adirondak Loj (dead end).

Lodging

To get the most out of the workshop, participants are encouraged to stay right at ADK’s facilities. Space is reserved for participants in our 16-person Wiezel Trails Cabin. Cabin has central heating, men's and women's restrooms with showers, a small kitchen and a common living room. Package participants should bring own sleeping bag or bedding (including pillowcase) and towels. For additional lodging options check with the Lake Placid Visitor's Center or http://lakeplacid.com/.

Food

Package participants will have meals provided starting with dinner Friday night through lunch on Sunday. Course-only participants can find affordable food at any number of local eateries in the Village of Lake Placid. Lists of these establishments will be provided at the commencement of the course.
