I grew up overseas with the majority of my years spent in Kenya. I returned to the USA just before graduating High School and started my adult working career soon after. I was born in Texas but quickly resettled in Colorado and made it my home. I fell in love with the mountains as I worked on Mt. Evans, at Red Rocks Amphitheater, and later as the first Lead Park Ranger for Denver Mountain Parks. I attended Red Rocks Community College completing the Park Ranger Technology program with emphasis on Outdoor Guiding and Natural Resource Management. As a park Ranger for Denver I became a WFR (in 2001 and kept it current), Type 4 Incident Commander (for initial attack), Type 4 Brush Truck Wildland Firefighter, Search and Rescue trained, and Level 1 Avalanche Search and Rescue. I am passionate about travel, the outdoors, and educating people. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching outdoor preparedness and backpacking skills as I also enjoy practically all forms of outdoor recreation myself. Over the years my most favorite outdoor activities have definitely been hiking and backpacking, mountain biking, fishing, paddling, skiing and boarding. Currently, I am a Global Outreach worker in East Africa. This has truly tested all of my skills living and working in remote villages in the bush with my family for the past eight years. Learning language and culture has been so challenging and fun. I have led several teams here for different outreach projects and plan to continue this for the foreseeable future. It’s always an adventure out here in East Africa and a fantastic place to live, work and play! I am so excited to be instructing for WMA and their wilderness first aid courses.
